For a relatively small "big" city, Paris never seems to run out of surprises. This is Jardin Yitzhak Rabin in the 12th arrondissement, built on the site of a 19th-century vineyard. On this drizzly Sunday, it was awash in greenery, popping with hyacinths, tulips and wisteria, and darkened by canopies of acacias and elms. In the garden's center are some grape trellises, and a community garden adjoins nearby apartment buildings. One of the greatest things about Paris is its commitment to open spaces. They are as much a part of this city's heritage as its museums, cafes and cinemas.
